JOHANNES LEIDENBERGER
GILDA MAUTONE
ADE QUERCIANERA
The fourth chapter of the collective series brings painting, paper sculpture and steel sculpture into dialogue, in a play between fragility and constructive rigour. Ade Quercianera presents two small paintings on paper reduced to a chromatic range of black, white and grey, where a human figure dissolves into a mass of dense, fragmented brushstrokes — a body that barely surfaces from the ground, eroded rather than represented. Gilda Mautone brings two canvases in a more direct, pop register, a face broken down into isolated details (an eye, a smiling mouth) placed alongside two painted paper heads, their eyes wide open and features exaggerated almost to the point of masks: an iconography of the face dismembered and reassembled, between portrait and fetish object. Johannes Leidenberger sets against this material fragility two steel sculptures with polished surfaces and sharp cuts, angular forms that open and twist in space like blades or broken wings, introducing a register of hardness and geometric precision. The title, deliberately left open as in previous instalments of the series, leaves it to the viewer to trace the thread linking such different materials: the human figure broken down and reassembled, through both accumulation and subtraction
