DIZZINESS#2
ADE QUERCIANERA
"Dizziness 2" marks a significant turn in Ade Quercianera's practice, whose research was selected for the Premio Cairo by Frank Boehm, curator of the Deutsche Bank Collection. The installation, presented at the Quadriennale di Milano, moves away from abstract surfaces toward portraiture, while retaining the same pull toward the dissolution of form. Two paintings depict male figures in jacket and tie — one still recognisable in its features, the other eroded by a web of dark marks that nearly erases the face altogether. At the centre of the room, a white rocking horse on a floral rug introduces a domestic, childlike register, contrasting with the almost spectral gravity of the portraits on the walls. The title captures the sense of the work precisely: an identity, and a memory, caught wavering between recognisability and loss
