UNTITLED#5
JOHANNES LEIDENBERGER/GILDA MAUTONE/ADE QUERCIANERA

"Untitled#5" brings together three ways of constructing an image, between raw matter, artifice, and geometry. Ade Quercianera's white plaster sculptures, with their hollowed, fragmented faces, return as archaic, silent presences, casts of a dissolving identity. Gilda Mautone responds with a large-format photograph framing an assemblage of objects — a golden star-shaped brooch, an oval hat, a golden fringe arranged to form a smile — composing an ironic, artificial face, almost a mask made of accessories. Johannes Leidenberger closes the sequence with a slab suspended on angled metal legs, in precarious balance between weight and lightness. Between the eroded face, the constructed face, and the faceless purity of geometry, the exhibition explores the many ways an identity can be represented — or dissolved
