"Square" presents a raised concrete floor, made of repeated tiles arranged on beams that reveal the structure beneath. The work brings into the gallery, at scale, an element drawn from functional architecture — shopping centres, public spaces, surfaces designed to conceal cables and services. Stephen Forge's gesture doesn't recreate the object through imitation, but genuinely casts it in the material that defines it, bringing into view what usually remains invisible: the joint, the thickness, the technical void. The polished surface reveals the concrete's aggregate, while the edges honestly show the fabrication process. "Square" thus transforms an anonymous detail of the built environment into an object of minimal contemplation
